The Woodstock Shakespeare Festival’s 22nd season opens July 14 with one of the bard’s most challenging plays – The Merchant of Venice. Is the infamous money lender Shylock a victim or a villain? The lovers get married and all’s well at the end – or is it? Decide for yourself by attending Bird-On-A-Cliff Theater Company’s summer production of Shakespeare’s perplexing comedy. David Aston-Reese directs an experienced cast, among whom is Twilight’s Bob Sheridan in the role of the Duke, who presides over the court in the famous trial scene.

The Merchant of Venice takes place on the Outdoor Elizabethan Stage, located at 45 Comeau Drive in Woodstock, every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from July 14 through August 6. Bring a chair, bring a blanket, bring a picnic. Show time is 5:30pm, and admission is free (donations accepted).
